Joe Perry is in stable condition after collapsing on the opening night of Hollywood Vampire's tour in Coney Island on Sunday nigh. As the video shows, during the Supergroups first song, Perry appears ill and walks off stage. Rumors suggest it was heart trouble. Perry's Brother tweeted, Joe is in stable condition. However, Alice Cooper seemed visibly shaken after visiting the legendary guitarist in the hospital. | |
It was just weeks ago that Aerosmith confirmed their break up and 2017 Farewell Tour. Perry has been open with the public that Tyler, "Doesn't want to do it anymore." Considering this and the fact that there were rumors of bad blood between Tyler and the rest of the band last year, my theory is that it took 20 hours for his family and handlers to convince him that he must respond to save face.
Not that Steven Tyler has ever been a guy that's concerned with shaming himself in front of the masses.
Joe Perry suffered a legitimate medical emergency and still managed to make it off stage before collapsing. After all, Tyler made collapsing on stage a regular part of the show from drug use and drinking for nearly 20 years. How many of us got ripped off back in the day when Aersosmith shows were cut short?
The early 80's were a dark time for the band, their drug issues had taken them out of the public eye for sometime, even diehard fans were weary of buying tickets. Their comeback album, Done With Mirrors didn't sell. It was Tyler who gave the nod to piggy back off the then underground sound of Run-DMC.
Debuting on The 4th of July 1986, Aerosmith/Run-DMC's Walk This Way YANKED the Rap and Hip Hop sound into the mainstream. MTV immediately put it in heavy rotation and before long, MTV Raps started and quickly seeped into, then flooded the music networks regular programming.
Walk This Way was, in fact, the first hip hop song to break into Billboards's top 5 in the US and made #8 in the UK.
So next time you see a suburban white kid with his pants down acting all hip hop, you can thank Steven Tyler for helping erode rock n' roll and launching Hip Hop into popular culture to save his own career.
I can only hope he does to Country what he's done to ROCK N' ROLL!
